John Jarvie Historic Ranch

Scottish immigrant John Jarvie set up a store, post office and ferry at a Green River crossing in Browns Park in 1880, and the BLM keeps the place much as a remote frontier stop. A stone house serves as a one-room museum with a short film, next to the two-room dugout where John and Nellie Jarvie lived, a blacksmith shop and corral built from hand-hewn railroad ties, and a replica 1881 general store holding the original safe. It is a long drive on back roads, which is part of the point.
